Homemade Laundry Detergent - Worth it?!?!

So I know I've done a couple posts about local events. I've also done a lot of grocery match ups, coupons available and some pretty awesome retail deals as I think it applies to my audience. I have not however done any posts on DIY stuff.

I am an avid Pinterest-er? That will be my new word. I could, on some days, say there should be PAA meetings (Pinterest Addicts Anonymous) for people like me. :) Since the world of Pinterest has become available, I have started trying MANY new things. I've started cooking new foods, trying new crafts, and done quite a bit of money saving DIY stuff.

One of my ALL TIME FAVORITES is my laundry detergent. Now I know many people are always curious about if it is worth it or not. Trust me, it is. It is SO SIMPLE to make, does not cost a lot at all, and good for many different types of laundry. I use it on my baby clothes, cloth diapers, my husbands nasty uniforms and on my 3 year old sons dirty laundry.

My recipe is as follows:

1 bar Fels Naptha soap
2 cups Borax
2 cups Arm & Hammer Super washing powder

1-2 Tbls needed per load of laundry

I have a Ninja blender that I LOVE and use it to get my bar soap fine enough to mix with both powders. Now I know most recipes say 1 cup of each powder. I have actually found that it still gets my laundry just as clean and smelling great and makes the 1 bar of soap last that much longer.

Now as far questions about possible allergies go, I'd ALWAYS check with your doctor if you are concerned about any reactions but here is my experience.

I have 3 kids, twin 15 month old girls, and a 3 year old. I cloth diaper my twins and 1 has eczema. I have found that using my laundry detergent gets my cloth diapers clean without any residue or issues with breaking down or absorbency. Also my baby girl doesn't have anymore eczema flare ups from the detergent itself.

I have included a link on where you can find the bars of soap. This is an awesome deal and the bars run you the same as buying in store, which can always be hit or miss.
